2024 Dots with Distance

The National Federation of the Blind of Michigan welcomes you to Blind Equality Achievement Month (BEAM)! Throughout October, our affiliate proudly joins 51 others as we highlight the accomplishments of the blind. Our local chapters and state divisions are actively educating the public on Federation programs and initiatives that ensure blind people can always live the life they want, while opening the door for more who collaborate with us to join the blind people’s movement. The 2024 Dots with Distance Campaign is the NFB of Michigan’s opportunity for you to support programs that help the blind and educate the public on our efforts for the next year.

What are Dots with Distance?

The 2024 Dots with Distance campaign aims to highlight the importance and connectedness of braille in the blind people’s movement. The National Federation of the Blind is a strong supporter of braille literacy because it promotes independence. Statistics also show braille literacy leads to academic and career success. This campaign encourages supporters to join our affiliate as we promote the use of more braille, either for personal use or for someone else. Whether you are hoping to improve your reading speed, hoping to have some daily affirmations in braille in your office or introducing the code for a friend; this program is an opportunity to touch so many. All items when ordered will be shipped free of charge. All proceeds of this campaign are used to support the 2025 NFBMI Braille Enrichment Literacy and Learning (BELL) program, our national flagship braille literacy program for blind youth. Supporting this campaign can be done in two ways:

Simple Braille Note

Total: $5
Purchasing a simple note adds a touch of braille to the life of a recipient. Whether it is a quote from your favorite author or your 2025 New Year list of resolutions, bring braille into the room. By selecting this option in our Dots with Distance campaign form, you will be given the choice to insert the text you’d like to receive, as well as the person and address of where the note would be sent.

Braille Readers Brigade (BRB)

Total: $15
By selecting the “Braille Readers Brigade” option in our Dots with Distance campaign form, you are provided the incentives of the simple braille note, as well as several additional braille items. These items include:

  • Customized 2024 NFBMI BRB Passport Card
  • NFBMI Chapter and Division Contact List.
  • NFB Pledge
  • NFB One-Minute Message

2024 NFBMI BRB Passport Program

The National Federation of the Blind of Michigan thanks its partners and sponsors for supporting the message of the blind people’s movement. With the help of generous donations from our convention sponsors, the NFB of Michigan proudly presents its 2024 BRB Passport program. If you are a passport card holder; please visit our 2024 exhibit hall, taking place Friday, November 1, from 11am-6pm, in Kalamazoo at our state convention. If you present your customized passport to every table at the exhibit hall you will be given a word. By turning in your BRB passport card and the phrase these words create; you will be entered into a drawing for $150 cash at our 2024 banquet, taking place on Saturday, November 2, 2024. Limited passport cards will be sold at convention, so joining the Braille Readers Brigade during BEAM is your ticket into this exciting opportunity.
