Theme: "Casting Your Net: Setting Goals With the Federation"
Description: Calling all At Large chapter members and blind Michiganders. The NFB of Michigan's At Large chapter is an option for those who do not have local chapters in their areas who are meeting, those who can not physically attend their regularly scheduled meetings and those who have other circumstances that prevent them from joining a chapter. The At large chapter is an information hub to update our membership on the great work that our committees are doing statewide to support members in their needs for advocacy, education, community wellness, health, and other areas of concern for blind people that we are able to effect change in. This month, we will be discussing the direction we would like our chapter to take this year and love our membership to weigh in as it is also our election year. If you are interested in becoming a new member of the At Large chapter, please do so by visiting the link below. Current dues-paying members of the At Large Chapter are encouraged to attend our meeting. We look forward to connecting with you all.

On Friday, January 6, attend a meeting with the Communications Committee, where you can learn about all of the things we do for our amazing affiliate. We are always looking for members of our affiliate who are interested in joining and helping us do our work! If some of the things we do interest you, we look forward to seeing you on Friday and answering your questions! Some of the things we do include:

  • Keep members up-to-date with the latest happenings in advocacy efforts around the state using social media tools such as Facebook as well as email
  • Set up and organize Zoom meetings for affiliate chapter meetings and special events
  • Monitoring our social media platforms
When: Friday, January 6, 2023 at 7 PM EST.
Where: our usual affiliate Zoom room
https://zoom.us/j/9612695221?pwd=dHlxZDNwcVVZbUVTYUM5cEU4cDlndz09
Meeting ID: 961 269 5221
Passcode: 902855

We hope to see you all there whether you are interested in joining or if you have any questions for the committee members.

When our affiliate creates events like our "Michigan's Got Talent," we score big because members are so energetic, diverse and love to have a great time. The National Federation of the Blind's Youth and Family Program Planning Committee prepares, supports and markets inclusive events that promote positive blindness philosophy, post-secondary education, career exploration, social interaction, positive skills of blindness, and employment experience. The beauty of this committee, however, is that it is not just game nights. The NFBMI Youth and Family Program Planning Committee will be hyper focused on creating content that enriches the lived experiences and employment opportunities for:

  • Blind Parents
  • Blind Students
  • Blind Children

So join us on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 7pm EDT to discuss these and more potential topics that we are interested in pursuing. The Zoom information is included below:

Are you an NFB chapter or division member wanting to help build the Federation? Are you a new member wanting to learn what our programs do or aren't sure how to do that at the state level? We have answers, friends.

October 1 begins National Blind Equality Achievement Month (BEAM), where blind people all over the nation are encouraged to promote the message of the Federation. Through advocacy initiatives and fundraising efforts, blind people all over the country take steps to change society's sometimes flawed idea of what the potential of blind people are. Join the members of the NFB of Michigan as we stride toward future programming for blind parents, students and families in this virtual Walk-A-Thon.
