Michigan Association of Blind Students:
The Michigan Association of Blind Students is a proud division of the National Federation of the Blind of Michigan. We advance the lives of our members and all blind students in the state by raising expectations, advocating in and out of the classroom and developing ways for everyone to get involved. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind students, because low expectations create obstacles between blind students and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind students in Michigan.

Exclusive Pre-Convention Zoom with Marco Salsiccia Tactile Art & Puzzle Innovator Maureen Handwerker!
Dear NFB of Michigan Family,
The Michigan Association of Blind Students (MIABS) is thrilled and deeply honored to announce a special pre-convention virtual event, and we are inviting our entire affiliate to join us!
On Sunday, October 25, at 6:30 PM Eastern, MIABS will host a live Zoom interview featuring two brilliant, creative leaders who are redefining tactile accessibility:
Maureen Handwerker, the ingenious creator of the tactile puzzles that have captured imaginations nationwide.
Marco Salsiccia, accessibility champion and the coordinator bringing our State Convention’s Tactile Art Room to life.
During this interactive conversation, Maureen and Marco will share their journeys, discuss how they broke into tactile design, offer an inside look at what attendees can experience in the Tactile Art Room and with the puzzles at convention, and take your live questions. It is a rare opportunity to meet these innovators up close and build momentum as we head into the 2026 NFB of Michigan State Convention (November 5–8 in Grand Rapids).
We are incredibly grateful to Maureen and Marco for generously carving time out of their busy schedules to spend an evening with our division and affiliate. Let’s show them our deepest Federation appreciation with a packed virtual room!
